Just when you thought things couldn’t get anymore out of control… they do.  I came across this article from the BBC and couldn’t be more disturbed.  According to the Professor Linda Cardozo of King’s College Hospital in London, cosmetic vaginal surgeries are on the rise. Not only are women going through extreme measures to “revamp” their vagina’s for vanity’s sake, they are also doing it unsafely. “Most of the procedures are done in the private sector and it’s totally unregulated,” says Cardozo. The frightening part is in at Google search there were “45,000 references to cosmetic vaginal surgery, yet on medical databases such as PubMed or Medline there were fewer than 100.” Meaning, they aren’t being done in legitimate and safe conditions regulated and registered by medical databases.

So what exactly is it that these women are getting done? Well apparently there are three types of cosmetic vaginal surgery.

  1. Labioplasty - to make the labia smaller (most common procedure)
  2. Vaginal rejuvenation - to make the vagina tighter
  3. Hymenoplasty - to restore the hymen and make the woman appear a virgin

According to this article, In the past five years there has been a doubling of the number of labial reductions carried out on the National Health Service from 400 in 2000/1 to 800 in 2004/5.

    I saw something about this a while back. Los Angeles is the home of unnecessary medical procedures… lol It’s a shame that women feel these things are necessary. I’m wondering how many of the women getting these procedures are African or Middle Eastern. Many cultures place a lot of value on the reproductive organs of women. I’d like to see men start having surgeries on thier nether regions… lol
