Okay, I know that we are all addicted to our cell phones, but lately I’ve noticed that we have let them take over our lives as well as our manners. So, here are just a few rules you should consider:

1. DO NOT talk on your cell phone in small areas with other people present. Ex: cars
- Unless it is necessary this is so annoying and rude. The music has to be turned down and no one else can hold a conversation until you’ve finished yours. Not to mention everyone is ear hustling.

2. DO NOT answer your phone if you are involved in another conversation.
- This basically tells the person you are talking to that you would rather be talking to someone else. If you must answer say excuse me and keep it short.

3. DO NOT sit in the corner text messaging your boo at a social gatherings.
- You do not look tight when you do this. Sitting in corner texting people all night makes you look like loser considering you have live people right it front of you.

4. DO NOT leave a social gathering to go talk on the phone.
- If your chillin’ with your friends, then chill with your friends. DO NOT get up at cupcake with your boo, ya’ll can talk later.

5. IF YOU’RE one of those people whose cell rings every five minutes, put it on vibrate.
- It gets annoying and we don’t want to hear the first 10 seconds of the same song all day, besides it feels good in your pocket ;)

6. WHEN people leaves messages, call them back.
- We don’t leave them for the hell of it.

7. DO NOT call if you are busy.
- We don’t want to sit and hear you brush your teeth and wash your face or constantly tell us to hold while you go do something else… call us back. If we want to talk to you we will still be there. I swear.

8. IF YOU have bad service, refrain from calling.
- Calls constantly dropping and going in and out is annoying, wait till you have service.

9. DO NOT text and drive.
- If you cant talk and drive don’t do that either.

10. IF YOU must answer your phone and it isn’t a convo that no one else is interested is in, PLEASE PLEASE leave the room and come back later.

11. I don’t care who you are or how important you think you are, when with a group of people DO NOT sit and play on your blackberry/treo/whatever.

- Come on, do you really need to check your e-mail right now? Do you really need to check you Facebook account at this very moment in time? Must you catch up your old college buddies right this second. Didn’t think so. Put it away. It’s so rude.

Last but not least, DO NOT get all hurt if your call is forwarded to the answering machine, the person you’re calling is probably just following these rules. THANKS!

  1. dang Stace! This is a total inditement! But all completely true. I am definitely guilty of 2, I’ve done 9 : \ and I’ve caught myself doing 11 more and more. Thanks for the call out, I will def put down the blackberry… or at least try to… it’s just so dang cute is the problem. lol

  2. hey stace, i got a couple too…
-please check voicemails before calling a missed call back (so i don’t have to repeat my entire message)
-please leave messages (so i know what to expect when i call you back)
-choose appropriate calltones or select defaults for particular callers if you MUST have them (future employers do not want to hear t-pain) … i can’t speak for anyone else, but i haven’t had a ringtone on my phone since early 2004 and have risen above calltone mania… i absolutely cannot stand them. ooh, and if you are still holding the phone up to the radio and putting songs on your voicemail greeting, you need to shoot yourself, NOW!
-and one last one… stop putting me on hold. just call me back. my mom still refuses to get call waiting on the house phone because she doesn’t want to make someone else feel less important when another call comes in. for years i’ve thought she was crazy, but after being told “hold on, suchnsuch is calling me” then forgotten about numberous times… i totally understand.
