Tips on How to Make the Perfect “Let’s Get the Draws” Playlist
Words: Kat Noel • Sep 9th, 2008 • Category: RANDOMNESS.Fellas, you’ve been physically attracted to the woman sitting on your couch since the moment you saw her, but you’ve been playing it nice and easy, not wanting her to think that that’s all you’re about. But tonight? Hot damn! The energy between the both of you is definitely electrifying, and there’s no mistaken the look in her eyes and the way her hand keeps finding it’s way to your chest. Soooo, you excuse yourself and dip into the bedroom in search of your (depending on what era you’re from) “Let’s Get the Draws” cassette tape, CD, or playlist on your Ipod or computer.
Now, every true “Let’s Get the Draws” playlist producer knows that there’s a science behind creating the perfect mix, you can’t seal the deal by putting just any ol’ song on there. Yes, there are ladies that can flow to Luda’s “What’s Your Fantasy” and an Uncle Luke joint, but trust me, putting them on your playlist is taking a risk that may annihilate your chances . Also, remember: Just because the music industry may label it R&B doesn’t mean it’s appropriate for the moment. Stay away from anything about heartbreak and cheating, and definitely NO T-Pain or Pretty Ricky. You can’t go wrong with sticking to the oldies but goodies, like Luther, Teddy, Guy, Prince, Jesse Powell’s “You”, and some R.Kelly - especially the song with him and Changing Faces, and “It Seems Like You’re Ready”. Definitely throw some Maxwell and Raheem Devaughn on there for good measure.
Don’t be afraid to let a little bit of your own flavor shine through because the moment is about you too and if you’re not feeling it than what’s the point? If reggae gets you in the mood than add a few reggae tracks. One of my boys recently shared that he has some downtempo techno on his late night playlist. Hey, whatever gets your boat floating.
Think of the playlist as a soundtrack- you want each song to fit each and every moment, so the order is extremely important. The first two or three tunes should be able to compliment some hot and heavy foreplay and the very last one should bring it home, but remember nothing too fast or slow because it may throw off your rhythmn.
So there you go, tips to creating the perfect “Let’s Get the Draws” playlist. Feel free to comment and share a few suggestions from your own playlists; this is a community space and we’re all about learning ![]()
